A sleep technician is a healthcare professional responsible for conducting sleep studies to diagnose and treat sleep disorders. They work under the supervision of sleep medicine physicians and are trained in operating and maintaining equipment used during sleep studies, such as polysomnography machines. Sleep technicians prepare patients for sleep studies by attaching electrodes and sensors to monitor brain activity, respiratory patterns, heart rate, and other physiological functions. Throughout the study, they monitor patients' sleep patterns and record data accurately. After the study, sleep technicians analyze the collected data and generate reports for the sleep medicine physician to interpret. They may also assist in educating patients about sleep disorders, treatment options, and the use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines.
